At the end of the module, students will be able to:
Identify, compare and characterize architectures of RF receiver, multi-standard radio systems, Software Defined Radio (SDR) and cognitive radio thanks to lectures and exercises.
Explain concepts related to RADAR thanks to lectures and exercises.
Characterize and analyze different antenna structures thanks to lectures and exercises.
Study and analyze radio transmission system thanks to simulations.
- Analyze and characterize wireless systems thanks to practical experiments.
A background of a first course in electronic and microwaves is assumed
Microwaves, radio and propagation, RF receiver, SDR, antenna, simulation and practical measurements
Radio architectures: Emitter / receiver (E/R) structures, state of the art on Software Defined Radio and integrated radio system, hardware architecture definition, RF sampling, multi-standard receiver.
RADAR principle: physical requirements, data signal and antenna.
Antennas (from simple to complex ones): wire antennas, aperture antenna, reflector antennas (space applications), array antennas, printed antennas.
Measurements and practical labs: antennas, vector network analyze, spectrum analyzer, noise.
RF simulations with Keysight Advanced Design System (ADS) software.
The evaluation of this module is based on:
A continuous evaluation (CE) based on laboratory works (NL) and an oral presentation (NP) about a topic related to wireless systems (topics will be proposed to students on the first meeting).
A written exam: 1st session (N1), 2nd session (N2).
