Acquis d'apprentissage

The course aims at providing to the students the technicalities and the methods to understand the requirements for building multimedia services over complex networks. The students will learn the need to integrate different techniques (from network control to Artificial Intelligence) in order to reach the goal.

Contenu

The students will learn how IP networks, Internet networks, Mobile networks (1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G, PMR), Clouds networks, Edge-Clouds networks have been introduced and designed for multimedia transmission and services.
An overview of IP networks, Internet networks, Mobile networks (1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G, PMR), Clouds networks, Edge-Clouds networks will be presented from multimedia service point of view.
The students will learn and will understand how multimedia streams are transmitted over IP networks, Internet networks, Mobile networks (1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G, PMR), Clouds networks, Edge-Clouds networks and more complex networks.
The students will learn and will understand how multimedia services are built and deployed over all these types of networks, and over more complex networks.
They will understand the coding and transport techniques for multimedia information.
They will learn how multimedia streams (voice, audio, video) are compressed (MPEG, H26x families) and transported (MPEG, RTP/RTCP/RTSP, SIP, IMS) over the networks.
They will understand how Artificial Intelligence improves multimedia services and creates new ones.
They will be able to map the needs of multimedia services on the current network capabilities.
They will understand how Artificial Intelligence improves multimedia transmission and deployment over the networks.
They will also be capable of understanding the control schemas and design of multimedia services
They will comprehend the different categories of AR/VR/XR services and the way to program them into multimedia services.

Evaluation

The student will be evaluated for his/her understanding of the different concepts through the in-class tests (50%).
For the report, the student will be evaluated depending on the depth and precision in the report and the presentation and question/answer session.
The course is in English but with help and translation in French in needed.

Formule de l'évaluation

The evaluation will be based on in-class tests (50%) and a brief report (50%) describing an existing (or new) multimedia service design and a short presentation of 10 min and a short questions/answers of 5 min. The student is requested to sketch a simple service in order to demonstrate the level of understanding of the technicalities and methods discussed in the course. The TP (3h) and project personal coaching (0.5h) will be devoted to setup a model for the preparation of the report.
The report could be done by a group of two or three students ("binôme"/"trinôme"), but the report/presentation/Q&A parts are the same for each student (one part of the report/one part of 10min of the presentation/one part of 5min of the questions/answers session).
The course is in English but with help and translation in French in needed.

This course is split into two independent parts: NET 4252 (P1-1) and NET 4254 (P1-2).
The first part NET 4252 (P1-1) will provide the basic knowledge on multimedia services and networks, for the construction of multimedia services over IP and mobile networks. A mini-project of construction of basic multimedia services over IP and mobile networks will be carried out in this course NET 4252 (P1-1).
The second part NET 4254 (P1-2) is a project-oriented course through the construction of advanced multimedia services over complex networks. Advanced multimedia services and complex networks will be studied in this course NET 4254 (P1-2).
You can take either only NET 4252, or both NET 4252 and 4254.
