Cours/TD/TP/projet/examen : 50Acquis d'apprentissage
Students following this course will learn to master the different performance-related engineering approaches, such as dimensioning, resource allocation and control. These techniques and tools shall enable them to design QoS-capable networks that fit best target applications and services, both in the wireline and wireless environments. They will also learn to plan future evolutions by acquiring a clear view about recent and future trends through research-oriented expert-led seminars as well as guided personal work.
Prérequis
Queueing Theory Basis
Contenu
The course is composed of two parts:
Part I – Theory (30 hrs):
Dimensioning (eg, PSTN, GSM)
Congestion Control (eg, TCP, IEEE802.11)
Advanced control (eg, TCP-friendliness, AQM)
Quality of Service (eg, ATM, intserv, diffserv, MPLS)
New/Future trends (3G, B3G, 4G, LTE/WiMAX, WiPAN, WiRAN)
End-to-end issues (heterogeneous networks)
Spontaneous networks (ad hoc networks, sensors)
Measurements
Part II – (15 hrs): Seminars and student presentations
Evaluation
Each student will be assigned a research paper and will be asked to write a short report and to give an oral presentation summarizing its content.
